On the Emmaus Road

Our journey has begun. We gathered today in Houston at an airport hotel to spend the day getting to know one another and preparing for our trip. We spent time sharing about our understanding of how we are involved in God's mission today. We talked about mission as mutual accompaniment and gave examples of how we are trying to live that out in our mission relationships from our doorsteps to the ends of the earth. We had dialogue on what it means to live into our commitment as Disciples and UCC to Be a Global Mission Church.... the challenges and the joys of "being" at the congregational, regional and general expressions of our church. We went over our itinerary and divided up the responsibilities of being chaplain of the day and blogger of the day! We concluded our time in a worship, communion and commissioning service where we listened once again to this past Sunday's Gospel Scripture text from Luke. We are anticipating being on the Emmaus Road with our Global Partners in Guatemala, Nicaragua and El Salvador. And we are asking God to open our eyes so that we might see the face of Christ in the folks that we meet during our journey.
